Cooper is in fine form, enjoying something perhaps a little less intense for a live show, with an underlying sense of rock royalty coursing through the music’s veins. On the other hand the 2011 shows that I've heard had the same thing going on and I can't imagine that group of guitarists weren't up to snuff. Their tradition is to play a riotous tribute to the great lost heroes of music and their own original material, released on their recent studio album 'Rise'. I too have always loved T Rex and was fortunate to see them (well him, mostly) in Newcastle in 1973.

The third track is another from the debut album, I Got A Line On You, which doesn’t sound out of place following a classic like My Generation. Jeepster from T-Rex takes centre stage, with Cooper rising to the occasion once more as he changes his vocal pitch to emulate the style employed by Marc Bolan while still retaining his own vocal richness. I would guess at that point it was still just a bit of fun rather than a serious prospect going forward. Her interaction with Cooper during the song brings the show to another level that was already rising above a normal show.After this success and the media interest in the ultimate rock group, sold-out concerts, and tours all over the world followed, and in 2019, finally, the second album "Rise". The second album had more originals and only three covers but was released after this recording and so, unfortunately, doesn’t feature here. Live albums are notoriously hit-and-miss, but this release hits every tangible target and then some, and for that much of the credit lies with a band that until now I hadn’t given more than a cursory listen to. Made up of Joe Perry ( Aerosmith), Alice Cooper, Tommy Henriksen ( Warlock) and Johnny Depp ( 21 Jump Street), the Hollywood Vampires have been strutting their stuff at their own leisure since 2012, releasing their first album in 2015.

In 2015, the HOLLYWOOD VAMPIRES not only released their first album, but also played one of their biggest concerts, which will now be released as their first live album. If I remember this was one of the first shows the band played (after the Whisky club shows) so they were still very much in the bar cover band mode, which lessened after 'Rise' was released.As a prelude to this special moment, Hollywood Vampires release a live album, which includes the recording of a show in Rio de Janeiro. He seems to find a renewed vigour playing even his own material with the Vampires, who treat the song with the respect it deserves. Upon arrival today to the venue in Slovakia to begin set up for tonight’s performance, it quickly became clear that the construction of the facility was incomplete, and therefore unsafe for both the band and the general public.

Released on Friday 2nd June 2023 via earMUSIC, the album features Hollywood Vampires’ entire 14-song set in front of 100,000 fans at Rock in Rio in Brazil on 24th September 2015.
