idk how it gets better than this 😍 you take my hand and drag me headfirst, fearless (stop i rlly thought i did something there). The way he was literally blushing whenever Alice looked at him and how he always wanted her attention was to die for! the bonus chapters are to die for we see a lot of henry’s feelings for alice and i was blushing and kicking my feet and screaming into my pillow because it was all so.

Chanel was also a great character, she was so nice and friendly and seems like she would make a great friend, but none of these characters are real which pains me to type out. Liang paints a clear picture of what it's like to struggle for certain advantages that are seemingly handed to others, skillfully exploring themes of classism and privilege via a sympathetic protagonist who feels--sometimes literally--invisible. You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. i had expected a more profound exploration of the enchanting aspects in this supposedly ya fantasy/ romance novel. We don’t share your credit card details with third-party sellers, and we don’t sell your information to others.i kind of wish that they gave an explanation as to why she does turn invisible but i do undersstand that it's a metaphor for finding yourself but IDC IDC ANN LIANG SUPREMACY. henry + my bf literally confessed in almost the exact same way which had me giggling and squealing like i'm back in hs. This had such an interesting magical realism element – although this book is set in the real world and feels like a contemporary, our main character does have the power of invisibility that adds a fantasy layer. The concept of this book was so fun and entertaining but considered some really heavy topics as well, especially as money was such a huge part of the story.

she's not this mc who's moral compass is always pointing at the right direction because that's simply not how it goes. I really wish we could’ve gotten his POV because I really really want to see what his thoughts were during certain situations!

even the author's deep affection and admiration for her parents shine through in this book, evident in the unwavering dedication and heartfelt portrayal. i’m so used to seeing the side of henry that laughs aloud, that teases me and challenges me and listens to taylor swift on repeat that i keep forgetting how distant he is with everyone else, even people he knows. Alice is the only scholarship student in this elite boarding school, and even then, her scholarship doesn’t cover the entire cost. i wish we got more moments of them together but honestly it’ll never be enough cause i’ll always want more but the bonus chapters did serve though and i ate it all up alicehenry you’ll always be loved by me !

i love the way she integrates asian culture without it being stereotypical ughh i just love love love her. and everything about this moment is so lovely and so fragile in its loveliness that i’m almost afraid to hold it. i also went in thinking this was going to be focused solely on the romance, but the slow burn is the longest slow burn i have ever read i might be exaggerating. i 100% wasn’t expecting the commentary on racism and classism, but it is something that should always be talked about when it’s appropriate, and it was woven into the story so well. However, her time there will come to an end soon as her parents inform her that they can no longer afford the part of the school fees that her scholarship does not cover. It’s a more one-sided rivalry, with Alice hating Henry for years without him really being aware of it. She doesn’t even necessarily know what she wants to do other than be successful; however, she’s so driven in everything that she does (see: monetizing a confusing and random power) that she’ll be okay in whatever she does, something other characters have to help her see. although the book was undeniably remarkable, it lacked the detailed explanations of how and why she acquired the power of invisibility. Sun was one of my most highly anticipated reads this year, especially after knowing both Gauri and Michelle absolutely adored it! She has two options : going back to the states for attending a school located in Maine or even worse going to the public school in Beijing.
